Illustration Friday - Monster

Here's a monster picture that I did a little over a year ago. I just fished it out and performed a little Photoshop magic on it.

Illustration Friday - Feet

Here is some henna work that I did about a year and a half ago. My mother in law got re-married and, at the time, I was messing around with henna, which is some pretty fun stuff to work with, because it's so forgiving and fast, but then it can last like a week to 10 days. Anyway, I did the work on her feet (which fits this week's topic) based on what I guess to be a pretty traditional style - I downloaded the pattern from the place where I bought the henna mud. Anyway here are the before and after pictures.

Here are the after pictures of her feet to show how dark the mud stains.

Here is the work that I did on her hands, which was not as traditional as the footwork, but I did find it on the same site. It was more of an ivy motif, but it was still very fun to do since I used a pattern as a guide for how to shape the leaves, but I pretty much improvised the layout on her hands. Enjoy!

If you're interested in checking it out, I buy my stuff from the following link. It's good fun and they have pretty much anything you need to get started with henna.

Illustration Friday - Tattoo: Part Deux

Here's another tattoo I designed for another friend. Again the concept was her idea provided to me verbally. She's a Leo and wanted something that represented her birth sign and also something representing her being a woman - hence the female symbol on the chain. Immediately this picture materialized in my head and I told her that I was the guy to draw it for her. I have lost contact with her so I'm not sure if she ever got it done, but it was supposed to be a fairly large backpiece centered on her lower back.
Enjoy the pic.

Brokeback Backlash...

I thought this was pretty funny when I read it in the paper today. I know everyone is poking fun at the premise behind this movie nowadays, but it's still pretty funny anyway, here it is.

Illustration Friday - Tattoo

This picture was a tattoo that I designed for a friend of mine. The placement of the tattoo is on his outside left calf. The concept and original drawing was his idea (if I can locate that drawing, I'll post it), but I refined the idea into what you see here - I also added color as the tattoo was done in black and grey to match a different one that he had done on the other side.
Although the tattoo itself looks good, I'm not sure that it translated very well to skin. Not being a tattoo artist myself, I was not familiar with the intricacies and requirements of tattooing enough to guide my design and the amount of detail involved in the piece really needed to have the final tattoo be larger than what it was to capture the detail.
My favorite part of the design are the tribal-like markings on the 'mermaids'' lower halves which continue up their backs and onto their heads.
Anyway, enough talk and enjoy the picture.

Wow!

Just checked out the latest X-men trailer. I have to admit, with the doubts I had for the continuity (or consistency) of this franchise, this trailer looks really good. I read a script online a few months back which was presumably the shooting script for this sequel and it was really awful, but, now, seeing this footage, it looks like Brett Ratner did justice to the X-men film franchise.

Check it out for yourself.
